Fear of Failure! How to deal with it?
The biggest bottleneck between you and your dreams is the
fear of failure. Rejection, criticism, accidents often arouse the feeling of
fear inside us. Judging others is not a unique thing. Everybody does it. Even,
we sometimes intentionally or unintentionally judge others based on their
actions, looks and their dreams.
Judging itself is not a bad thing, it’s the negative
vibes one tends to get from it, is more damaging. Sometimes, you will
perform poor, you will fail in your task but that doesn’t mean to call it an
end. There is a difference between fail and failure. You don't need to panic, just stay calm because failing is inevitable,
but failure is in our control.
In any sport, the aim of every athlete is to win and secure
every trophy, medal, records and recognition to his/her name. There are
millions of players around the globe but only some hundreds are known to many
people. Be it Roger Federer in tennis, Sachin Tendulkar in cricket, Michael
Jordan in basketball, Michael Schumacher in formula 1, Dhyaan Chand in hockey,
Messi and Ronaldo from football and I can go on and on but then the post will
lose the focus from failure.
The point is, they all have failed in their careers at some
point or the other but still are considered as legends in their field. Why?
This is because they learned from their failed attempts. They were not
afraid of failing. We are humans we will make mistakes, people will
criticize us and some life changing incidents will always take place. That
doesn’t mean to stop trying.
Let’s do the math. To achieve your dream, you have to
perform some difficult tasks in which you may fail but still you have to do it.
If you get afraid to do the work, then there is 100% chance you will not
succeed. If you start doing it, then there is at least 50% chance now, you win
or lose. So, which is better, a 100% NO or a 50% YES. If you stop thinking
about failure, then the chances of your accomplishment will further increase.
When you fail, you get the opportunity to improve yourself even better.
Google was rejected by Yahoo, WhatsApp was rejected by
Facebook and now the results are in front of you. At that point, if Google or
WhatsApp considered itself a failure, then who knows what would have happened. Becoming
a success is not a one-night thing. The problem is people only see the
result and not the hardships, sacrifices and bad times one has gone through. You
don’t need to prove anything to anyone. People will only see the end result. So,
whatever you are do, you are doing it only for yourself. Make sure it is for
the best of you.
Failure will meet you at every point of life. Oprah Winfrey had
a rough childhood; Steve Jobs was removed by the company he started at the age
of 30 and there are many more examples. They became successful not because they
are more talented, educated or gifted but because they were determined to
perform and that bring the best out of them.
One cannot fail in the work he has perfected, he will only
fail in the work which he is learning right now. If you never experienced it,
then you have not tried anything new. You may say, we know these
stories, we
know what failure is tell me how to deal with it. So, let’s do it.
Attitude
A positive mindset is the most important element is dealing
with failures. It took Thomas Edison more than 10,000 ways until he finally
invented the light bulb. It takes a great will power to see through that much number
of attempts. But he continued because he had the attitude of a winner. He said
that he was not failed 10,000 times, he just discovered 10,000 ways of not doing
it. A rich mindset is required for a success story and successful person.
Self Love
The process of understanding, working and keep on improving
yourself. If you want to bring a change, then you must make yourself so much
better that you can help others. It becomes even more important when you are at
your low point in life. At that time, one tends to lose focus and starts
doubting at his abilities and skills. Instead of counting your flaws, you
should think of the ways to improve it and this process will help to keep you
on the right track.
Goal setting
In tennis, there are two types of errors, forced errors and
unforced errors. Likewise, in your life, you will fail because of the
situations which may or may not be in your control. It is not possible to have full
control in your life, but it is possible to minimize it. That’s where goal
setting comes to play. This will make you productive and you can control the
activities to a great extent.
Suppose you want to build something, you need a blueprint
with every detail to act accordingly. Similarly, to realize your dreams, you need
to plan it in the best way. Your goals should be S.M.A.R.T. (Specific,
Measurable, Attainable, Relevance and Time Bound). Make short goals, keep track
of your performance and reward yourself to keep you motivated.
Dealing with criticism
The people will rate you, judge you, break you but how
you handle yourself is what makes you. You can either keep getting
demotivated, or you can go on a mission to prove every critic of yours wrong.
Walt Disney was told he lacked imagination, Michael Jordan
was cut from his high school basketball team for a lack of skill. Your failed
attempts will bring a lot of negative thoughts from yourself and from others as
well. You need to have faith in yourself and continue to prosper in your life.
One more example that comes to my mind is of a US President Abraham
Lincoln. His life journey continues to a motivator to millions of people till
date. In his life, he dealt with many disappointments, but he never gave up
and won the elections and did a commendable job.
So, failure is in our control. Don’t fear from it,
learn and fight with it and one day you will succeed.
Your advices and thoughts are always superb .It will be helpful for us.
